Venezuela loses 2018 Caribbean baseball tournament amid protests

The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation has relocated the 2018 Caribbean Series from Venezuela to Mexico due to the violent protests plaguing the South American nation.

The international tournament, which pits the champions from the winter leagues in Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, will be held in the Venezuelan city of Barquisimeto in 2019.

Mired in a deep economic crisis, approximately 70 people have died in Venezuela since April due to violent protests against President Nicolas Maduro.
