GERMANY – The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe and the Bonn Capitals continued their winning ways this past weekend in action from the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

The south division leading Heidekoepfe (6-0) captured a pair of impressive wins over a solid Mannheim Tornados squad. Simon Guehring and Gary Michael Owen both drilled two-run blasts in a 13-6 victory in Saturday’s series opener. A solo homer off the bat of Sascha Lutz highlighted a 9-3 victory on Sunday to complete the sweep.

Bonn extended its season-opening winning streak to four games with a pair of wins against the Solingen Alligators. Eric Brenk snapped a scoreless deadlock with a late RBI single and Sascha Koch and reliever Maurice Wilhelm fanned 12 hitters en route to a 2-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. A grand slam from Daniel Lamb-Hunt and Vincent Ahrens’ two-run shot propelled the Capitals to a runaway 17-1 win in the second contest.

Martin Kipphan drove in seven scores with three homers and Tim Stahlmann worked five dominant frames as the reigning champion rolled to a 19-0 victory Saturday against the Saarlouis Hornets. The Athletics erupted for 16 early runs and cruised to a 19-3 lopsided win on Sunday.

The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg tallied its first wins of the young season with a sweep over the Bad Homburg Hornets. Maik Ehmcke cracked a two-run homer and Lukas Jahn had four hits in a 15-2 victory in the twinbill opener. Mike Bolsenbroek tossed seven scoreless frames to lead the Legionaere to a 9-0 win in the second game.

Jakob Claesson threw five shutout innings and Jordan Edmonds drove in three runs to help the Hamburg Stealers blank the Cologne Cardinals, 12-0, in the front end of a doubleheader. The Stealers completed the sweep with a 9-0 shutout win in the second game.

Kevin Trisl worked eight workhorse frames and Nate Thomas collected three hits to help the Munich-Haar Disciples down the Stuttgart Reds, 12-5, on Saturday at the DB Ballpark. The Disciples earned the sweep on Monday with a 10-0 win as Ryan Bollinger fanned 15 and Lukas Steinlein tallied four hits.

Vicente Velazquez delivered a walk-off single to lift the Dortmund Wanderers to a 4-3 victory Sunday over the Paderborn Untouchables in the opening game of a doubleheader. However, a trio of Paderborn hurlers limited the Wanderers to only a pair of hits in a 5-0 win in the second encounter.
