GERMANY – The Mannheim Tornados have reportedly lured former New York Mets prospect Thomas DeWolf away from the reigning German Baseball League champion Mainz Athletics, according to Mister-Baseball.com. De Wolf was the first player born and raised in Belgium to sign a pro contract with a Major League organization..

The Belgian outfielder hit .444 last season with 10 long balls, 25 RBIs and 33 runs scored in only 15 games to help Mainz claim their first Bundesliga title since 2007. In three minor league seasons, the 27-year-old batted .244 with a total of 93 hits – including three home runs, five triples and 15 doubles.
